I can never figure out what to write, I have no access to feelings. Journaling is meant to connect with my feelings.

I’m 76 years old and I’ve been journaling since I was 10. I love words and using them to express myself daily. I’ve been through my daughter’s cancer and death, my own battle with cancer , and all the joys life has brought me. My journal has been my best friend and allows me to express without judgement. All my journals are labeled, and tied up and boxed in order to leave for my 3 children. I hope everyone will journal as the joys of pen to paper is beautiful. Have fun everyone… it’s wonderful.

I like the idea of the title spread. I journal long form but would like to add art to my journals. It took me awhile to journal because my mother thought journaling was selfish. I started venting in my forties. By the time I got to my fifties, I moved beyond venting.

I migrated into journaling (after basically refusing to as a kid) by starting a notebook of thoughts & ideas that eventually included emotions & memories/events. What really pushed me into doing it regularly is when I got into fountain pens and was looking for an excuse to use them more. At the beginning of the year I started a 5year journal in addition to my regular since I don't use it everyday. I have done a pretty good job of keeping the 5year up though some days there just isn't anything to write & sometimes I have to backdate entries

Yup, I used to struggle finding stuff to write about. I felt like it had to be something super deep. Nah. That put too much pressure on me trying to be so enlightened. I decided journaling should just be whatever I want/need it to be on any particular day. I do throwback pages where I draw and color 90’s tv show characters that made me happy, and I write about my favorite character and episodes. I also write about my plants, what they scientific names are, where they originate from, and care tips. I may write about my dogs, something cute they did, and changes in their routine. Maybe I write about something I saw on the news and my thoughts on it. I don’t stress anymore about what to add to my diary because I just add whatever is making me happy or sad, however “small, silly, not-good-enough thought” I may have, it’s mine and if I want to document it I will.

the "progress is progress" at the very end actually hit me so muchhhh, I only recently started really believing this, taking things in our own time and leaving space for the exciting unknowns too! tanks for this chill catch up :)

When I was a teen, I thought I would be married by 25 and have a house and kids. I'm 30 now and have never had a gf. But I don't feel bad or weird about it, bc we all have a journey and mines is just different from what the world believes is normal. I was taught that singleness is a gift and should be cherished .Singleness is the season where you discover who you are and what's your purpose. Then the life partner may come along. So I am just waiting for that time being content with where I am at and where I am going.

Work life balance is such a struggle but I am also getting better at it myself. I just lay and stare at the ceiling sometimes just slow down. :P

this was such a needed conversation with me as my passion has also been my job now (being a martial arts teacher!) but it makes me happy to know that i am not alone with figuring out my school & work-life balances🥹❤️

I get what you mean when you say it’s hard to strike a balance especially when you love what you’re doing. When I first started work work, I was fine with bringing work home - in fact, I loved it, work was life and life was work and I was contented. And then somehow three jobs later, you learn how to prioritise and that’s not to say that you’re grown any less passionate - you want what you have, /and/ more. I’d like to think that you’ve grown to have passion in more fields than you previously had and so you’re just hoping to find more pockets in your life to accommodate those as well. And that’s perfectly okay, I think it’s a learning curve we all had to go through ourselves. I’m not in my twenties anymore (early thirties!) and with every job/hobby I had, at some point, I’m content and comfortable (again) and would want to seek something more on top of that. My point is that, I don’t think it’s a single phase we’re trying to get through in our twenties - we’d have these seasonal visits every so often and it’s alright! We’ll navigate through it together! Also, curious question: are you finding it tricky to talk as well as complete your projects at the same time hahaha

Work-life balance has been a constant struggle for me. I work 10 hour days, 5 days a week doing something I don't enjoy, but it's my livelihood. I haven't been making myself a priority, but it's not easy to walk away from what pays the bills with no guarantees on the other side. Gotta take baby steps I suppose.

Lovely reminder that having good rest is important for our wellbeing! We’re constantly swarmed with so much daily tasks that it becomes challenging to “turn off” our working brain. Last year I’ve overworked and deteriorated my heath, causing my family extra burden to take care of me - I’m much better now and regularly schedule short breaks in between my daily routine. I look forward to more videos like this!

so glad you brought up how working on drawing/managing your own social media can be seen as work too. esp since this field is still p new/not categorized as the typical career choice ppl go for, our hobbies can still be seen as work, even if we enjoy it. got lots to think about after watching this, so thank you jen for helping me move forward 🤍🤍🤍
